Not surprisingly, James Whistler and Oscar Wilde, both notorious attention-loving wits, frequently exchanged nasty barbs. "I wish I had said that!" Wilde exclaimed of one of Whistler's wilier witticisms. "You will, Oscar," Whistler replied. "You will!"
