Brian Wilson: Beach BoyFollowing the release of Pet Sounds, Beach Boys frontman Brian Wilson did some redecorating. He insisted, for example, that the den, where he did his composing, be turned into a giant sandbox so that he could literally feel the sand beneath his feet as he worked.
He also had a hole punched in the wall for ventilation. On occasion he would knock on the wall and have his wife blow marijuana smoke through the hole into his mouth.
[During this period, Wilson often cried while watching the family TV show Flipper and once ate so many hash brownies with lyricist Tony Asher that Asher thought they might die. Wilson later spent several years (1971-1975) in bed. He didn't try surfing until 1976.]
