Mother's Pride

The Nobel Prize-winning physicist Richard Feynman was once celebrated as the "smartest man in the world." His mother's response? "If that's the world's smartest man, God help us!"

["What makes planets go around the sun?" Feynman once mused. "At the time of Kepler some people answered this problem by saying that there were angels behind them beating their wings and pushing the planets around an orbit. As you will see, the answer is not very different from the truth. The only difference is that the angels [ie. gravity] sit in a different direction and their wings push inward."]

Feynman, Richard Phillips (1918-1988) American physicist, recipient of the Nobel Prize (Physics, 1965) [noted for his research in quantum electrodynamics]
