English BreakfastIn October, 2003 - shortly after rolling a peanut seven miles through London with his nose - the eccentric British performance artist Mark McGowan announced his plans for another stunt: he would sit in a South London art gallery window for twelve days, in a bath filled with baked beans, with two chips (ie. french fries) in his nose and 48 sausages wrapped around his head.
This latest project, McGowan explained, had been prompted by an Italian friend: "I took him to a traditional English pub but he started to complain when he saw the menu. It got me thinking about how much some people criticise our food - even blaming a good old fry-up for obesity. We don't support our culture enough, so I though I would celebrate a part of it by turning myself into a full English breakfast."
[Among McGowan's earlier stunts?
* dressing up as a constable and inviting visitors to Clapham Art Gallery to hit him with his truncheon
* rolling himself across London for four-and-a-half miles singing "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" to highlight the work of office cleaners and
* trying to persuade fat people to eat less by walking for 11 miles around south and central London - with a 27lb turkey strapped to his head.]
