Happy ConvertBaptised Episcopalian, Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Jr informally converted to Judaism in 2002, so that Nick Valensi would not be the only Jew in the band. He soon found that Judiasm had its perks. "The first time I told a guy I was Jewish was in L.A.," Hammond recalled. "He pulled me into the corner, and I discovered this whole secret world. He even got me laid that night!"
[Before joining the Strokes, Hammond often dressed like a rocker and talked his way into concerts for free by pretending that he was in the band playing that night. He later booked shows and harassed record executives, claiming to be the (fictitious) Strokes' manager "Paul Spencer."]
