104The world record for the most illegal polygamous marriages is held by Giovanni Vigliotto of Syracuse, Sicily, who was arrested on December 30, 1981, in Panama City, Florida and charged with 104 (yes, 104) fraudulent marriages in more than twenty-seven states and fourteen countries, spanning a period of 41 years. Incredibly, in 1968 Vigliotto married four of his victims during the course of a single cruise!
[Vigliotto was convicted of only one count of bigamy and one count of fraud... In May 2003, an Egyptian businessman named Fawzi Mahmud al-Bahawi was sentenced to six years hard labour after marrying 23 teenaged girls. His marriage-and-divorce spree was only stopped when one of the children from his first marriage complained that he was spending "family money" on his new wives. There was no suggestion of bigamy, however; Islamic law allows a man to have as many as four wives.]
