Astor Overboard?In 1929, Lady Astor won election to the British House of Commons (the first woman in history to do so). Endeavoring to make her mark in what had been exclusively a male preserve, she frequently interrupted other speakers. Castigated one day for such an infraction, Astor protested that she had been "listening for hours" before interrupting. "Yes," exclaimed an exasperated colleague, "we've heard you listening!"
