Landmark Ruling

In 1893, U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice Melville Weston Fuller and his associates delivered a historic ruling in the case of "Nix v. Hedden." The ruling? The tomato, though technically the ripened ovary of a plant (and thus a fruit), was to be considered a vegetable!

Fuller, Melville Weston (1833-1910) American judge, U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice (1888-1910)
